FAQ

Common questions

What is supervised visitation?
Supervised visitation allows a parent to spend time with their child in the presence of a trained supervisor. It is commonly ordered by the court when there are concerns about a child's safety or well-being during unsupervised visits.
Who can refer a family to your service?
Referrals typically come from the court, family lawyers, or family justice counsellors. Parents are also welcome to contact us directly to ask about the process. Lawyers and family justice professionals can download our one-page referral guide here.
Where do visits take place?
Visits take place in public community settings, such as parks, libraries and recreation centres, or by video. We do not have our own visit centre, and we do not supervise visits in a family's home. Supervisors do not transport children.
How long are visits?
Visit length is set by the court order or agreed upon during intake, and varies from family to family.
Will I receive a report after each visit?
Yes. Our supervisors prepare a factual written report documenting each visit, which is provided to the referring party.
How do we get started?
Contact us by phone or through the form below, and we'll guide you through the referral and intake process.
Do I need a court order to start?
No. Many families come to us with a court order, but we also supervise visits arranged by agreement between the parents, and we can help while an order is in progress. If you have an order, send us a copy when you can.
Do both parents need to do an intake?
Yes. Each parent completes their own intake form and a short intake meeting. We contact each parent separately and never ask parents to contact each other.
Who decides when visits start?
The parents or their lawyers confirm the start date; we then schedule the visits.
What happens if there is a no-contact or protection order?
Arrivals and departures are staggered and handovers happen at separate points, so the parents do not meet.
What is in a visit report?
A factual account of the visit: times, who attended, what was observed and any incidents, with exact quotes where relevant. Reports contain no opinions or recommendations.
Who receives the reports?
The parent with day-to-day care and the people named by the paying parent, as permitted by the court order, the referral or the law.
What if the child is upset during a visit?
The supervisor offers a break and comforts the child. A child is never forced to continue; if distress continues or there is a safety concern, the visit ends.
Are your supervisors screened?
Yes. Every supervisor has a criminal record check with a vulnerable sector search before starting.
Which areas do you serve?
How much does it cost?
Fees are explained at intake. Call (778) 791-7712 or email [email protected] for our current rates.
